2025 Spring - Beginner Kayak Clinic

Considering buying a kayak? Want to explore the water, but unsure where to go? Interested in becoming a safer paddler? Craven County Recreation and Parks Beginner Kayak Clinic is designed to teach new kayakers how to safely paddle our local waterways. Course content includes trip planning, transporting kayaks, paddling techniques, and more! This course is taught by American Canoe Association certified instructors.

Course Date: Saturday, June 7th
Course Time: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Course Location: Congleton Shelter, Creekside Park, 1821 Old Airport Rd, New Bern
Course Fee: $75

Kayaks, paddles, and personal floatation devices (PFDs) will be provided for all participants, although they may bring their own. PFDs will be required to be worn properly at all times while on the water. For on-water classes, participants should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate athletic clothing that can get wet.

Note:

This class is open to anyone aged 16 and up.

Although kayaking is generally a low-impact exercise, it does require moderate aerobic activity. Participants should be comfortable with prolonged, mild to moderate activity with their upper and lower body.
